From the Friends
Friends Fall Meeting

The annual Fall Meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Sunday, October 8, at 4:00 p.m. at the library.  Dr. Sterling Eisiminger, professor of English at Clemson University, will present a program entitled "The Pleasures of Language: Malaprops to Rhyming Slang."  Refreshments and a social hour will follow the program.  Dr. Eisiminger is a participant in the South Carolina Humanities Council Speakers' Bureau and his visit to Winnsboro is made possible through funding provided by the Humanities Council.
History Set to Music

Dr. Clyde McCants will present a program series on opera and history each Tuesday evening in October at 7:00 p.m.  No registration is necessary, and a detailed program listing is available at the library or on the library's website.

Statewide Friends Meet in Columbia
Dr. Clyde McCants, President of FOSCL, chaired the annual meeting in Columbia on September 23, 2000.  Local Friends attending the program were Peni Chandler, Cottie Mosely, Joe Steele, and Brent Dorrier.   Sarah McMaster received the Outstanding Staff Award from FOSCL.

Just for Kids
Children's Book Week is November 13-17, 2000.  The main library will observe the week with special programs each day at 4:00 pm.  Puppets, face painting, stories, and other activities will be featured during the week.

A Children's Book Week Story Hour will be held on Thursday, November 16, at 4:00 pm at the Ridgeway Branch Library.
