Compliments of the Friends of the Library

October-December, 2000

Ridgeway Project Nets
Computers for Branch Library
Computer resources at the Ridgeway Branch Library will soon be expanded thanks to the profits from a community project sponsored by the Greater Ridgeway Business Association.

In 1999, this group sponsored the minting and sale of gold coins to celebrate Ridgeway's bicentennial.  They wanted to use the profits from this project to benefit the Ridgeway community and have decided to purchase several computers for the Ridgeway Branch Library.

One computer workstation will have Internet access, which brings the total available at the branch to three.  A second computer will be installed in the children's area and

will offer children's programs  and information databases.  Both computers will be hooked to the library's network printer.

The Ridgeway Branch Library is located in the Century House and is open Monday-Thursday, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The Tech Guy.

Pardon our technical difficulties...

During early October, the library will be upgrading the computer server that runs our library operations software.  Because of this we will be experiencing some computer downtime.  Our card catalog, circulation functions, and many of our online services such as Remote Patron Authentication and Java WebPac will be disabled during the upgrade.

We will try to minimize the amount of downtime and inconvenience, however, please be patient with us during the upgrade process.  We will be installing a new IBM RS 6000 with greatly expanded memory and disk space.  This will be our third upgrade since the library was automated in 1990.
