BOOKBYTES

VOLUME IV, ISSUE 2

DIRECTOR'S DESK

SARAH MCMASTER

I recently received email from Carol Maderic, a former Winnsboro resident and active member of the Friends of the Library.  Carol and her husband, Dan, moved to Virginia when Dan transferred from Mack to the Volvo plant there.

I wanted to share a few of Carolís comments with you.  She writes:

ďI really miss the library in Winnsboro.  Itís just not the same here and I donít look forward to going to this library.

...you would be appalled at the lack of selection on the shelves and the condition of some of the things we have taken out.

...if you ever need testimony to how good your library is, please, let me know. Iím not sure the

powers-that-be in Winnsboro and Fairfield know what a gem they have.  Keep up the good work.

Please tell your staff and the Friends hello and I miss all of you.

Thanks for all your good work.Ē

As Carol has discovered, good libraries donít just happen.  They need hard work by dedicated staff, financial support from county and state, and moral support from a local community.  In Fairfield County, we are lucky to have all three of those ingredients working for us.

As always, feel free to reach me by phone (803 635-4971) or email (sarah@fairfield.lib.sc.us).
