There has been a good bit of publicity about the Robert and Rebecca McMaster Book Endowment in this newsletter, but I thought you would be interested in knowing that the library has had another endowment fund for many years.
The Catherine D. Stewart Book Fund was established by her family in 1989 in memory of Mrs. Stewart, a long-time library patron. Upon the death of her husband, John, the fund was named in memory of both of them.

As specified by the family, proceeds from the Stewart Book Fund are used each year to purchase copies of award-winning children's books. Over the past twelve years the library has added multiple copies of Newbery and Caldecott award and honor books, as well as winners of the

Coretta Scott King Book Award and the South Carolina Children's Book Award. A book plate identifies the Stewart Fund books.

Various family members continue to add to the fund so that it has grown over the years.  Income from the fund currently allows the library to purchase about forty or fifty books a year. Our children's collection has been greatly enriched over the years by the Stewart Book Fund purchases.

As always, feel free to reach me at the library by phone (635-4971) or by email (sarah@fairfield.lib.sc.us)
